Boda Smide in Virserum
Forging and glassmaking traditions
In close collaboration with Boda Smide in Virserum, we at Bergdala manufacture the glass details you can see on Boda’s forged products.
During the heyday of the Småland glassworks in the 1950s and 1960s, Boda Smide was founded, building on old forging and glass traditions in Småland.
Many artists and designers have meant a lot to the company’s products over the years, with Erik Höglund, together with Bertil Vallien, perhaps the most well-known names. Other recognized designers linked to Boda Smide are Rolf Sinnemark, Kjell Engman and Björn Nyberg.
In Bergdala’s shop you can see a fantastic candlestick designed by Erik Höglund – and if you want to know more about and see more of Boda Smide’s beautiful products, you can find them on Boda Smide’s website – bodasmide.se.

Cooperation with the hobo museum of Hönsalotta
The visit starts with a welcome drink in the smeltery where we are welcomed to a unique encounter with history from the time when the tramps visited the glassworks. Sometimes it could be a party together with the workers, the people in the village, the youth and maybe the hunters from the forest. The glassworks was often the gathering place of the village and it was here that people enjoyed themselves after the glassworkers had finished the day’s hard work.
Bergdala Glassworks is the country’s only glassworks with wooden floors and walls and a genuine factory environment. It is also known for its “blue edge” and producer of the coveted TV award Kristallen. We then tell you about the tramp’s visit to the darkest Småland, where community and warmth were the guiding principles for the meetings. There were both true and less true stories for those who gathered. News from neighboring villages also gilded the gathering for those gathered in the usually warm hut.
The food is the highlight of the program and consists of Hyttsill a pickled salt herring in onions and cream. A tradition in Glasriket since long. There will also be fried pork, Småland lard ribbons and, not least, we have the pleasure of presenting Ambassador Håkan Juholt’s composed herring, which he has developed for our Hyttsillsbord, as an extra taste sensation, together with Inger “Hönsalotta” Rydbrink. This herring has a taste of all the delights of the forest. Baked potatoes, lingonberries (lingonberries were used to sweeten the salty herring) A spice butter for the baked potatoes is also on the table as well as crispbread.
